Today's school leaders should be harnessing the power of Web 2.0 to demonstrate for faculty and staff the new teaching and learning strategies used in 21st Century classrooms to improve student engagement and improve student academic achievement. Web 2.0 is all about interacting with content on the internet. Websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, Google Documents, and individual blogs are all examples of this type of interaction. Participants in this workshop will learn how to leverage Web 2.0 tools and applications to increase communication among staff, students and the public; to provide professional development for faculty; to conduct classroom walkthroughs and teacher evaluations; to improvement their own time management; and to lead a strategic planning process in the area of 21st Century learning.
Participants will learn to apply internet-based software applications to make forms for classroom walkthroughs and teacher evaluations; learn to apply internet-based software applications (e.g., Twitter, Facebook and Blogger) to increase communication with their school and district constituencies; learn to develop a strategic plan for incorporating 21st Century technology into the curriculum at their school(s), including the ability to survey constituencies using internet-based software, (e.g., Google Documents, Polleverywhere or Survey Monkey) to establish input for the strategic plan; and learn to to develop faculty professional development using internet-based applications such as Jing for screenshot-type applications and Audioboo for podcast-type applications.
