Danielson Components 2a through 3d in separate documents. Evaluators can use these to share with teachers following informal and formal observations for the teacher to self rate and the evaluator to rate. The two parties then discuss in a reflective conversation the results of informal reflective rating.

ISBE Poised to Align ISAT to PSAE, But May Low-Ball College Readiness Benchmarks


Many studies have found that the proficiency levels needed to “meet standards” on the Illinois Standard Achievement Test (ISAT) (given to third- through eighth- graders) are among the lowest in the nation, that they are much lower than the proficiency levels needed to “meet standards” on the Prairie State Achievement Exam (PSAE) (given to eleventh-graders), and that they are even further behind when compared to the proficiency levels needed to be on track to college and career readiness.



Student surveys for children as young as 5 years old may help rate teachers


Students of all grades in Georgia will complete surveys intended to help evaluate teachers' effectiveness. If the pilot program is successful, feedback from students as young as kindergartners could be used to evaluate teachers beginning in the next school year. Georgia would be the first state to adopt such a system -- following individual U.S. districts that have adopted similar systems. Some critics, however, say students can be biased in their evaluations.

IASA NEW "Teacher Evaluation" iPad App

IASA will be marketing a new iPad application for building level administrators to use for teacher evaluation purposes. This will be a joint venture between IASA and CRT. The application will allow a teacher evaluator to record evidence for formal observations, informal observations and classroom walkthroughs on an iPad. All of the recorded information will then be able to be accessed via a data base. The administrator will be able to select the teacher name, the Domain/Component and each evidence statement made for the evaluation period will be sorted for the administrator to review for summative and formative evaluation purposes.


In addition, the administrator can attach digital pictures or movie files to the teacher data base. All of this information will be digitally stored and instantly sorted and displayed for the administrator. The following are some screen shots from the software.

Partners with CEC for the development of the teacher and principal evaluation training include:
  • DuPage ROE
  • ISU Center for the Study of Educational Policy

  • Value Added Research Center (VARC)

The teacher evaluation training will be the following:
  1. Administrators can choose to take the entire training online. The training will be an estimated 32 hours including four assessments that have to be successfully completed. There will be four modules. Module 1 will include training on PERA, SB7, and other new evaluation requirements. Module 2 will include specific training on Domains 2 and 3 (Classroom Environment and Instruction) from the Danielson Frameworks. Module 3 will be training on Danielson Domain 1, Planning and Preparation. Module 4 will be about Danielson Domain 4, Professional Responsibilities, having conversations with teachers about teaching (reflection) and how to design a professional development plan for the teacher.
  2. The district can decide to send one of its administrators to be become a certified ISBE trainer and that person could do the district's training but all the administrators must still pass the online assessment mentioned in 1 above.
  3. The district or districts could decide to bring a certified ISBE trainer to their district to provide a blended model of face to face and online training. All the administrators must still pass the online assessment mentioned in 1 above.
  4. The administrator may elect to proceed directly to the online assessment if the district has evidence that the administrators have previously attended Danielson training. All the administrators must still pass the online assessment mentioned in 1 above.

It would be my recommendation that all administrators participate in 1, 2 or 3 above. If the administrator fails the online assessment twice then the administrator must attend a more intense face-to-face training provided by ISBE.

The principal evaluation training will be 20 hours with similar training options as noted above for teacher evaluation training.

All principals with assistant principals must successfully complete both trainings. Most superintendents will also want to attend both trainings.
